Vision for the Future of Medicine:

It was Nostradamas, the 16th century physician and great futurist, who predicted that “Physicians of the future will dispense no medicine, but will heal by . . . prevention.” Whether we believe in the prophecies of Nostradamus’ Quatrains or not, healthiness-by-prevention has become the watchword of medicine for a long, long time.

Think of it . . . Isn’t being vaccinated against influenza preferable to being sick with it for days at a time? Isn’t inoculation from polio preferable to being incapacitated by it for a lifetime? Wouldn’t one rather make a lifestyle change than face open-heart surgery?

As much as we have come to rely on the restorative power of modern medicine, it is usually preferable to avoid an illness than to have to recover from it. We read almost daily of the hazards of the over-use of antibiotics and the resultant bacterial resistance to those antibiotics.

The watchwords of the decade are “Work smarter, not harder.” This is particularly true of our health. If we can build a program of personal health and wellness, we can avoid many unnecessary complications and financial strains in our lives. It is to this end that WellnessReportCard.com is dedicated.
